Wow...a neighbor of mine is actually clearing a good part of the mountian-side (private property) for Koa and other ones. His grand-children will have a nice inheritence from the trees (the dead ones), and their garden will most likely become a learning center for many in the valley. Good work/luck to um!

More links, provided on the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens (http://www.mnbg.org/resources/)website. The Maui Nui gardens are located in Central Maui, and what's neat is every year, the foundation has a native plant sale so you can actually purchase Native Hawaiian plants for propagation in your own yard, thus helping to preserve some of the indigenous plants from Hawai'i.

My third eldest boy planted two koa trees on our property before leaving for the Marines. The saplings were just under two feet then, now it's just under three feet and growing. He loves the Big Island (after relocating as a teenager from Honolulu) and when he planted the two trees then left for the military, my wife and I realized this was his home now (not Oahu) and that made us decide to stay back instead of coming back to Oahu.

Rick Barboza does a column for the Star-Bulletin about native plants:

That's a search to a bunch of his columns.

Let me know if you find out. I could use that too.
