  • Tihei mauri ora!

    Ka tangi te titi,
    Ka tangi te kaka,
    Ka tangi au e,
    Tihei mauri ora!

Kia Ora tatou katoa i roto i te aroha nui o to tatou ariki,

Ko Te Aroha ki uta, ko Moehau ki waho,
    Ko Tikapa te moana,
    Ko Tainui te waka,
    ko Hoturoa te ariki,
    ko Hotunui te whare tupuna,
    Ko Marutuahu te tangata,
Ko Ngati Whanaunga raua ko Ngati Paoa nga iwi,

He kakano i ruia mai i Rangiatea e kore e ngaro.

Big greetings to you my cousins the indigenous peoples of Hawai'i. A seed sown from Rangiatea will never be lost.

I grew up in Australia, and it was there that I was fed the beloved language of my ancestors. I live in New Zealand now as I now study at university. One of my kanaka Maoli friends showed me this website. There are heaps of discussions that are going on here and I intend to read those discussions so that I don't ask questions that have already been answered by the members of this message board.

No reira, hei whakatepe i taku mihi, kia mau tonu ana tatou ki nga korero tuku iho a ngo tatou tupuna hei oranga mo tatou, hei oranga hoki mo nga tatou mokopuna hoki.

So, to conclude my introduction, may we all continue to hold on to the oral traditions of our ancestors for our sustenance as well as for the sustenance of our descendants.

    Ka huri.
