  • Hawaiian Air and Microsoft Flight Simulator

A company called FlightSoft has released an extension to Microsoft's well-regarded Flight Simulator called "Fly To Hawaii.'

    They boast about "
the most advanced visual models of the McDonnell Douglas DC10 Jetliner ever to appear in a flight simulator program," and if you check out the pictures on the site (here's one), they're pretty impressive. For a split second, you figure they're photographs of real planes. (Interestingly, though, they're using Hawaiian's older paint scheme.) You can also fly an Air Force KC10.

Notably, the airports you can take off and land from include Honolulu, Mauii and Kona, and you can even make a Los Angeles run.

I haven't used MSFS since... well, since it ran on Windows 98. Looks like game technology has treated the title well... terrorism training implications notwithstanding.

The only thing now, is that today, in the real world Hawaiian Air doesn't fly the DC10. Most of them are now rusting hulks in the Mojave Desert. So once again, Microsoft is 2 years behind time.
    I'm still here. Are you?

This looks awesome. I might pick up this game for my computer.

MS Flight Simulator has been around for a long long time. I've been console flying for many years. There are so many add-ons available now. You can download aircraft and scenery from several websites.

My favorite is www.simviation.com. From that site I've downloaded a version of Honolulu International Airport with more buildings and parked airplanes. Other favorites of mine are a massive B-52, a "Lord of the Rings" edition of a 747, Air Force 1, and a couple of planes designed by Rutan... the private spaceship designer.

I don't know when I purchased my copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator but it has Honolulu International Airport as one of the places and a Boeing 737.
