  • The Hillary Rodham Clinton Watch

The Clintons are such consummate politicians and vicious competitors and the media seems to be such willing accomplices, I think it will be fun to monitor the Hillary campaign over the next year.

There have been accusations that they run an amazing machine and will do anything for power.

So far I've noticed a few.

    1) The group she helped start, www.mediamatters.org went after Rush Limbaugh with an out of context remark about "phony soldiers". They also went after Bill Oreilly for something about being amazed that black restaurants in Harlem were like any other restaurant. (not the exact quote but close)

    2) They apparently threatened the Obama campaign that they had dirt on him (drug use in High School) so that the media, who always helps the Clintons, could run with it and they couldn't be accused of directly slinging mud.

    3) Media dropped the story on that Chinese American donor who gave 100000s in donations but gave a tiny run down home address in Daly City, California.

    4) Hillary is now attacking Barack Obama for being inexperienced in "international affairs" when her only claim to fame her entire life was being married to a politician and a few years in the Senate.

I suspect there is a lot of dirty politics to come. Should make it fun to watch is a sick kind of a way. The Clintons are amazing politicians and it should be interesting to watch.

So if Hillary does something noticeably good or bad. Please list here to keep Hawaii's voters informed. The "news" media won't do it.

Bah, Obama's got the Oprah factor. He's good to go.

Seriosuly, she can turn a book no one has ever heard intoa national bestseller in like a day; I see no reason she can't make a presidential candidate in a month.

Bill is my favorite Clinton politician right now with his disingenuous comment (maybe he really believed it?) that he has always opposed the Iraq war. He's campaigning like it's 1999, not 2007, when it's easy for any one so inclined to use Goggle to see what was really said way back when.

There was a great article I read last week on Bill Clinton stumping for his wife. I tried to google it but couldn't find it. Something about Good Bill, Bad Bill. The bottom line was that the author describing in glowing terms this mans ability to work a crowd, to deliver a speech without script and make it look so easy. But he also pointed out how he will say anything (like the Iraq war statements) and how he mentioned Hillary once or twice at the start of his speech but 1 hour later had said the word "I" about 92 times (or something in that neighborhood). Yes he actually counted the "I"s. That is classic Bill Clinton. Narcissistic, pathological liar, and loved by all.

Nah, this election is going to be determined by the Mexicans, not blacks (many of whom don't consider either Oprah or Obama "real blacks") or the haole females who idolize Oprah.

You win California, Texas, and Florida (55 + 27 + 34 = 116) and you have nearly 1/2 the electoral votes to win the presidency. (in 2006, you needed 270 to win)

Texas and Florida are the big state that could go either way, Dem or Rep. The Mexicans are conservative catholics (Republican) who are usually at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder (Democrat). They could go either way, ....... that is if they vote.

Blacks loved Bill Clinton more than any other president. They don't like Obama cuz he's descended from American slave owners not American slaves.

This presidental campaign has a certain ironic twist in my mentallity. I generally like politics, I like the manuevering, and the planning, and strategizing, and debating, etc. . . And this particular race looks as if it's going to be most volatile race in some time, with some serious options for real change no the table and yet. . . I'm incredibly disinterested in it.

Perhaps I'm too cynical; but I have a strange feeling that even though we have some really novel individuals running for president we're going to end up with the same old post-50 upperclass white guy. Take your pick.

Nah, this election is going to be determined by the Mexicans, not blacks (many of whom don't consider either Oprah or Obama "real blacks") or the haole females who idolize Oprah.

Which is an interesting phenomona in itself. I don't quite understand why race/sex is such an important issue for people. Shouldn't we be voting for the candidates with whom we most agree rather than the one who most closely matches our skin tone? The really sad part is, despite their actual beliefs, I'm sure we're ging to see the candidates themselves dumping their principles in favor of pandering to those people most liekly to vote for them; those with matching skin colors or genitalia or both.

Not 48 hours after I explain that it's the Mexicans who will choose our next presidente, Hillary is quoted as to being open to the idea of Bill Richardson being her VP. Bully can speak full on Spanish and is part Mejikano (I made that word up, at least the spelling)

I wouldn't be surprised if she or the Republicans for that matter, take a mexican. In fact, I bet you that the days of old white guy pres and VP tickets is over. Each ticket will need at least one Mexican in order to win California, Texas and Florida. And when you don't win all of those, you usually don't win.

Would a mexican american win over Florida? Most of my cubano friends aren't big fans of the mexican americans & vice versa. Honestly asking: would a pan-latino thing be enough?
"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

That's true. Big diff between Cuban and Mexican. But a Spanish friendly candidate would probably win a little of both. Maybe a candidate with roots in a different South American country but who speaks Spanish and can connect to both cultures. I don't know the exact numbers but I doubt Cubans get any where near the percentages of California and Texas that are Mexican. Last I heard, California is already or is soon to become 40% hispanic and mostly Mexican. Texas, Arizona, New Mexico are all approaching Mexican majorities.

But your point on Cubans is well taken. They are mostly conservative Republicans since they know what socialism gets you.

Hillary still digging for dirt on Obama. They usually get vicious when they are afraid.

                      http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2...0/barackemail/

If there was any question whether Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign was concerned about the rise of Senator Barack Obama, here is a fresh example: A deputy campaign manager for Mrs. Clinton sent an e-mail yesterday, trying to find out about Mr. Obama’s background as a community organizer in Chicago.

The deputy campaign manager is Bob Nash, who served as White House personnel director in the Clinton administration. In March, Mr. Nash left his position as vice chairman of Chicago ShoreBank to join Mrs. Clinton’s campaign.

Here is the text of his e-mail, with the addresses redacted:

                      From: Bob Nash
                      To:
                      Sent: Sun Dec 09

WHAT DI DHE DO AFORE HOW LONG AND WITH WHO ??

                      PLS TELL BOB HELLO BOB

                      Bob J Nash
                      Deputy Campaign Manager
Hillary Clinton for President Exploratory Committee
                      4420 N. Fairfax Drive
                      Arlington, VA 22203

Mr. Nash, 59, did not respond to an e-mail request seeking comment. A campaign official said he was unaware of the matter, but would look into it.

Obama's book, Dreams From My Father, would most likely answer the bulk of Nash's question.

                          Re: The Hillary Rodham Watch

a bunch of ladies burned on this question last night.

Stats: all women were Hawaiian/Asian/Caucasian mix. White and Pink Collar mix. 3 are Kamehameha alums. Five us are not (public school nō hoʻi). All married with children. All of us "did time" in America (college and/or military). All live in "geek/tita/Mata Stewart" paradigms. What draws together our group is that we are progressive/liberal Christians (don't concern ourselves with issues such as biblical inerrancy or that head-trippin' armageddon, but do see the bible as a profound philosophical document that has existed for eons, hence its holiness, and get pissed off collectively at being such a minority as far as Christians go). We are the heretical Christian bible study ledes who love to read.

Most of us voted for Bill Clinton the first time and not the second time.
Most of us voted for Linda Lingle the second time and not the first time.

Most of us want Barak to get the nod. Fear that it will be HRC's. Think that there is something wickedly cool about a First Lady running for Prez. Think that she is far more shrewd than her husband and that his fooling around put her in the biggest disadvantage, because she was damned for staying and would have been damned for leaving him.

If HRC gets the nod, half of us are going to take a serious look at who the R nominee is. We muse that we might vote for Mitt just because he has had to defend being a Mormon when the mainstream Protestants would never have to do such a thing. Plus, the dude has the most sex appeal of all of them. Yes, we will admit it, although that's not nice to say about someone who is probably a bishop in his church. We think Giuliani has all the guts of W and is 4x smarter and 4 times less moral. We look at the whole China/India equation and concern ourselves that they are the greater threats to the American way of life than any Muslim nation, and we would like to see us separate from Saudi Arabia more and get smarter about our dependency on foreign oil.

We think that both Dems and Repubs are tax&spend: Dems want to spend on social programs, Repubs want to spend on the military. So we see our own Libertarians leanings, yet have socialist ones, too, as it invariably comes down to the factors that contribute to the health of an island economy, which is what our home is.

Btw, we are a book club, and we are tearing apart Naomi Wolf's The End of America.

Such an important factor in deciding who to vote for. Hey, maybe then we can get a Republican President caught in a (Bill) Clinton-esque web!
