  • A Hawaii Threads milestone

I happened to scroll to the very bottom of HT's main page and noticed that the number of members just passed 7,000!!!
Congratulations, Ryan, and mahalo nui for creating and maintaining this wonderful place!

Only if he/she actually posts, and doesn't just lurk.

After his/her "more than 100 posts" probation period, they shall be rewarded.

Thanks for the congratulations. I'd say simple survival and fairly regular smiles are milestones enough.

User counts are, sadly, not indicative of much. Easily half are spammers who are never validated. Another twenty percent register to spout off on one specific topic, and don't bother to request validation or say their piece and are never heard from again. And a good number are one or two people who've got nothing better to do than prove why memberships have to be manually moderated.

To be sure, things aren't quite as wild as they were a couple of years ago. Then again, I have much fewer headaches. I'm happy with the 'ohana we've got, and I'm glad y'all have stuck around for the ride.

And only if he/she has been flamed once by certain members of HT and has had admin PM'd at least on one occasion regarding staying OT.

I was wondering who the very first 10 or 20 members were, and couldn't find a way to search for that on the Members List. Ryan, if your admin superpowers can find that, methinks it would be interesting to some of us.

                Re: A Hawaii Threads milestone

Viewing a user's profile reveals the URL:

                http://www.hawaiithreads.com/member.php?u=1

So, by incrementing that number, you can find out who some of the first members were. The first two being me, of course. The first set (excluding those with no posts) include:
                1. Glen Miyashiro
                2. Mel
                3. Helen
                4. Jeffy
                5. Haken
                6. Albert
                7. migoi
                8. Wai`anaeCrider
                9. cacheman
                10. Kilinahe
                11. DaGeek
                12. Paxwithlove
Obviously, several were here for the GPS forum we once hosted. Using the URL trick, you can also jump to the first post on April 9, 2004. Of course it was a test post!

                  Re: A Hawaii Threads milestone

                  You can try this:

                  http://www.hawaiithreads.com/member.php?u=1

And change the ?u= part from 11 to 20 since the following for 1 to 10 yields:

                  1 - admin
                  2 - Invalid User
                  3 - pzarquon
                  4 - Glen Miyashiro
                  5 - mel
                  6 - helen
                  7 - jeffy
                  8 - Haken
                  9 - Albert
                  10 - migoi

                          Mahalo LikaNui!

I hope it is. I've been having connection problems...das why I hardly can post and blog.

                            Re: A Hawaii Threads milestone

Man, the holiday season makes me all warm and fuzzy... and therefore do stupid things.

I've just spent the last couple of hours going through the 500+ unmoderated accounts that had piled up. Of course most of them got deleted outright, a task made easy thanks to usernames containing 'xxx' or 'porn' or 'pills' or e-mail addresses in Russia. (Though I suppose we could have some fans in Russia.) The rest, I Googled and IP checked and researched as best I could.

End result? I've approved about two dozen new memberships. Some may have been pending for half a year, of course, and may have forgotten all about us. Still, we may see some new and hopefully friendly faces.

                            Merry Christmas?

Maybe 30 accounts remain under indeterminate for now. No doubt their ranks will grow back to 500 by next December.

I've heard that Microsoft's employee ID badges are all sequentially numbered... and having an ID number with three digits or less gives you virtual demigod status. Is this like that? In that case, I'll start accepting those virgin sacrifices...
