Sad to hear of his passing. He was a Hollywood icon.

My favorite movies by Mr. Heston?
        • Ben-Hur
        • The Ten Commandments
        • Planet of the Apes
        • Soylent Green... is people!
        • Earthquake - one of the granddaddies of 1970s era "disaster films". A long movie with soap opera quality but fun to see L.A. get obliterated.

He's been in a couple of made-in-Hawaii movies, neither of which were any good.
        • Diamond Head - saw it once but don't remember much of it.
        • The Hawaiians - I think this was a sequel to Hawaii. Among other things it covered the Chinatown fire.

He was also in The Omega Man which I saw as a kid, and which I understand they used as the basis of the current movie, I Am Legend.

Charlton Heston was in 3 "Planet of the Apes" movies... the classic 1968 original, its sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, and the Tim Burton remake of Planet of the Apes from 2001, where he played an aged, dying old ape. Clips from the 1968 movie also appeared in the 1973 sequel, Escape from the Planet of the Apes.

In college I once spent a whole day in an auditorium with several hundred ape fans watching all 5 of the original classic ape movies. Each one was worst than the one that preceded it. Was fun though.

Heston was also a conservative & Republican and the president of the NRA.

R.I.P. Mr. Heston. Your movies will live on forever.
        I'm still here. Are you?

So, I Am Legend is a movie based on a book based on a movie?

Aside from The Ten Commandments, my favorite Charlton Heston film is El Cid.

Richard Matheson's novel, "I Am Legend," came out in 1954. Three movies have been based (sometimes more loosely than others) on it:
            - The Last Man On Earth (1964), with Vincent Price
            - The Omega Man (1971), with Charlton Heston
            - I Am Legend (2007), with Will Smith

We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
