    Re: I, Robot.

My first reaction when I saw the preview was that the company that made the robots is called US Robotics. There was a company back in the 1990's by that name but they made modems.

As far as the robots themselves in the movie their shape sort of reminds me of the battle driods in Star Wars Epsiode 1 and 2.

I guess when the movie comes out we have a better idea on what powers these robots.

All I can think about this film is that it looks nothing like the material it's supposedly based on... which is ironic, since now the book is being reissued with the movie marketing on the cover.

I distinctly got that impression from the preview and it's fairly unlikely I'll see the movie. I hope a different team tackles the "Foundation" books.

I never read the book, I still plan on seeing this movie, time permitting.

            Re: I, Robot.

Saw it on Friday evening at Dole. It was an okay movie. As far as the tie in to the book, the ending credits says suggested by Isaac Asimov's book (or something to that effect) as opposed to by or based on.

                Re: I, Robot.

And I was at the 5:35pm showing.

There was a couple of loose ends that either I missed or didn't get addressed in the movie but I will put that in a future reply to this thread.

                    Re: I, Robot.

I was horrified to hear that the same team is now working on the Foundation books.

Likewise to hear there exists an earlier screenplay for "I Robot" written by Harlan Ellison which was rejected because, among other reasons, it would have been too expensive to produce.

But from the same report, Widow Asimov is apparently pleased because she "likes Will Smith".

                    Sigh.

                      Re: I, Robot.

Will Simth in this movie did an all right performance. And it's not like he's never done a sci-fi movie before. Or being a cop.

Don't get me wrong, I like Will Smith and would have been happy to see him do the Ellison version of "I Robot". I just felt it was a bit sad to hear Widow Asimov make no complaint about Asimov's book and ideas being mangled just because she likes Smith.

                          Re: I, Robot.

Well you have to keep in mind that the movie was suggested and not based by the book.

Maybe someone who has read the book and seen the movie would add to this discussion.

Will have to be someone other than I. Read the book (a collection of stories) several times, but have no desire to see the movie.

I guess one of these days I should read the book.

In any event the one thing I noticed about this movie is that the cars while it can go really fast and are automated they don't fly.

Set in the year 2038 by the way.
