    Summer it's almost half over.

    Re: It's half over

Since summer means "kids wake up at 5 a.m.," I'm not exactly depressed by this particular milestone. And as noted in this thread, it's not like summer is a period of rest and relaxation for everyone.

Still, we've done summer-like things, like hitting the neighborhood pool and driving up to Haleiwa for shave ice, so in that respect, it's been nice. My daughter starts first grade later this month, and her second little brother arrives next month, so we're cramming as much family fun into these weeks as we can.

Since I'm a recently retired senior I have to chuckle at the previous comments...it's a permanent summer for me But what about folks who have kids in year round school...are the kids going now? I know my sister-in-law says that when her youngest was in the lower elementary grades that having year round school was a pain because she'd have to send him somewhere during most of the vacation times. She only had three weeks of vacation and used it up in no time.

The "year round" school schedules aren't actually year-round. My kids ended classes for the year around June 9th, and start up again around July 30th, so their summer break is only about seven weeks. Then they get a one-week fall break in late October, a three-week winter break in late December/early January, and a two-week spring break in late March.

Enjoy it for those of you who can. I go back to school next week wednesday.
How'd I get so white and nerdy?

            half over?

            Thank goodness!.
            can't wait for all
this heat to start tapering down!.
Gawd!. It's HOT out there during the day!.
You almost have to be indors somewhere,
to just cool off, if there is no a.c.
Thankgoodnes for public pools & beaches,
            including, stores & shopping malls.

Keep in mind that after summer is over and kids go back to school, traffic tends to get worse. I like summer!
              I'm still here. Are you?

One good thing about summer being half over is that the construction at Ala Moana Shopping Center will be that much closer to completion. What a mess!

(Won't comment on what's going on in Waikiki, since I don't go there.)

Which also means we're getting closer to Christmas!

                    Again? goodness.
                    Please, don't remind us all.
                    I dread to imagine those
                    who like to shop
                    last minute.
                    With people like that,
                    the shopping malls full
                    of crowded people,
                    is much worse than
                    people driving on the road.
                    Could you just imagine that,
people that are last minute shoppers,
in the Shopping malls, good grief!.
                    BTW- I guess that means...
we are all getting close to
                    Halloween & Thanksgiving, to, huh?.
I guess that means more money to spend.
                    Gawd. Perish the thought.

                      Re: It's half over

The very essence of having this thread to remind us that summer is almost over begs the question that everyone prepare for the holidays. With the remodeling of Ala Moana Center near completion and Walmart almost ready to open, all credit cards, retail purchases and everything else related to the biggest commercial holiday of the year will culminate into a large, insane, crowded shopping frenzy. Most people will continue by tradition, necessity and procrastination to shop late, create traffic jams and fill the malls in order to meet that big December 25 deadline.

There are only 213 shopping days left till Christmas! (as of July 25)

Well it's almost another month of summer left but since I work for a college, it's about another 4 weeks or so before the fall semester starts.

Well, summer ended for my daughter last week -- her first day of first grade at her new school (her fourth in three years) was Friday. I'm not sure whyschool started on a Friday, but when it comes to "easing into" a new routine, I suppose it helped!
