The influence of early Polynesian explorers actually went far beyond just bringing chickens to Peru. In this photo of Machu Pichu, you can actually see evidence of early Polynesian commerce. Regular plate - Barbeque chicken - all rice, please!

The organized persecution of Thor Heyerdahl notwithstanding, there is ample evidence (when organized they'd call it proof) that there was significant contact between the greatest seafaring people in the history of our planet (the Polynesians, of all divisions/families) and the people of South America.
What Thor got wrong was his contention that the Pacific was settled by Americans.

I find it sad that the once great Polynesian Sailors have abandoned their love for cutting edge astonomy.
Back in the day, navigating by the stars was cutting edge knowledge.
Today, the cutting edge is found with high powered telescopes.
