Check to see how the fan is attached to the base. There is often a sort of "neck" between the two, and this neck becomes a weak point. We've had 2 fans break at this place.

Yeah, my first thought was - oh, here's someone going to lament the disappearance of the KGMB tower on Kapi`olani when they finally vacate the premises . . . but, no . . .
I took my tower fan apart around midnight at the request of my wife who couldn't sleep with all the rattling that thing was doing.
Those things collect a lot of dust and made the blades out of balance causing the fan to shake, rattle and...upset my wife. So by 1am I had it fixed and was amazed at how quiet it was, so quiet I could hear my wife snoring like a chain saw.
Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.
