within walking distance of where? If you mean Kapiolani/Ward - I would venture to say no. The only place I can think of right now is Like Like Drive In, which is a sit down type of restaurant. The food is similar but nothing will ever taste like Flamingo's food. It is on a bus line though so would be easy to get to.

When they turned out the lights for the last time they broke the mold for that classic style food and ambience.
The old Ala Moana stop was like a 2nd home for me from the mid 70s. Open at 7am on Sunday's, just in time for NFL games at the bar, and banana pie for breakfast desert.
I still see my favorite waitress on The Bus occassionally.
Bakery Kapiolani in Aiea Shopping Center was similar in food, but it's gone now too.
I don't know. I think Like Like Drive In is walking distance from the old Flamingo. It's just three intersections down Kapiolani from Ward and then up a couple of lights. Where are you walking from?

[...]There's also a great place on the corner of Kamakee and Waimanu, I think it's called Norman's.
The Diamond Head/makai corner? With the Corvette out front? Is/wasn't that Harry's owned by Cindy? The home of the (still) 99¢ breakfast! It's the epitome of a greasy spoon but whatta great place to hang out. I haven't been in there in several years but I loved her signs...esp. the soft drink sign. All drink sizes were $1.25 because "I love everybody"!!!

I stand corrected, that is exactly the place I'm talking about.
It has, is, and will always be Harry's. They'll have to tear the building down to end that legacy.
It was my favorite breakfast stop forever until they had to take the bacon off the 99er.
Odd enuf, I've never had anything else from them. It's on my to-do list for lunch asap.
The Nagamine's were of Okinawan ancestry. Can you name other Hawaii companies by ”Uchinanchus”?
Actually, a lot of Okinawans (Uchinanchu) owned local-style restaurants. In fact, an extraordinarily large proportion of old-style local restaurants and lunch wagons were owned and operated by Okinawans. To name a few:
--Columbia Inn (Fred "Tosh" Kaneshiro)
--Kenny's Restaurant (Ken Kaneshiro)
--Likelike Drive Inn
--KC Drive Inn (Jiro Asato [bought the restaurant from original owners in 1935])
--Bea's Drive In
--Zippy's (Francis and Charles Higa)
--Rainbow Drive In (Seiju Ifuku)
