Thirty seconds from start to finish, unless you take your time drinking the coke.

Open a can of coke and drink it, then snip a strand off a mop and knot one end.

Rotate the tab at the top of the can so you can get the mop strand inside the can, knotted end in, and thread the other end through the hole in the tab, leaving a bit of mop out...about half an inch or a bit less. Then rotate the tab just enough so that it holds the mop strand snugly in place.

Fill the can with salad oil, wait a minute or two so that the wick has a chance to absorb the oil a bit, and light your new oil lamp.

Mine's been going now for over 24 hours and it's not a quarter empty. I just now snipped the wick a bit and pulled it up just a tiny bit because the flame was getting a bit weak and too burned down, and it's going strong.

It took longer to type this post than it did to make the lamp.

Neat. Salad oil? Like... salad dressing? Or oil as used in some salad dressings?

I guess that's one way to add a scent to your lamp? Fill your house with the smell of sesame and garlic?

SUZIE! Welcome back. You have been missed. The seeds I sent came back labeled as 'contraband,' illegal to ship, sorry.

Neat idea! Very... uh... avant garde! But I forgot to rinse the can out, and now my home smells like coca-cola! Not bad, actually.

Haha....next time, mark 'chocolates' or 'alohawear' on the package.
