I haven't touched a "tropical drink" in years. But back in the 1980s I used to like the Pearl Harbor that they made at Ryan's: one part Midori, two parts vodka, and three parts pineapple juice. The name was for two reasons: (1) it's green and murky, and (2) you gotta watch out for the sneak attack.

This makes me think; what are tropical drinks; who are they created and made for: are they unattractive to those that reside in the tropics?
are they a kitchy thing tourisst imbibe to make em feel they are in da tropics while they reside in a stateside tropical bar?
and then drinkem while they are in the tropics while we locals smirk at da maiati drinkers?
If it's got a paper umbrella in it, it's a tropical drink.
/end sarcasm
Maybe that's too broad, but sometimes I wonder. I'd say a tropical drink has to have rum.
well i am looking for something more expansive than this
cuz wrong on both counts. brollies appear on 10% of trop drinx and rum appears in maybe 1/2 trop. drinx...
