Re: Alii Highway Delayed.....once again
From the article:The Ali'i Highway project from Keauhou to Kailua has been dealt another setback, and this time it means a delay of at least a year while county officials figure out how to cope with burials in the path of the proposed road, said Big Island chief engineer Bruce McClure.

Re: Alii Highway Delayed.....once again
Well this highway has been planned since 1958 I believe. It could've alleviated
the traffic congestion we are facing here. But that won't happen for the foreseeable future. As this burial council decision reflected only one grave site.
The catch is they recently found another grave site in the proposed roadways
right of way.
If this isn't bad, the other roadway that could alleviate congestion is
in limbo also for two reasons. The roadway I'm speaking of is Hokulia
bypass road. The first reason is Judge Ibarra's decision to halt nearly
all construction at Hokulia, which included the bypass road.
The second reason is the roadway had to be completed to Captain Cook
for it to be open for public use. Aside the above reason, the second
phase was being held up by the Coupe family who were contesting the
county's use eminent domain to condemmn some of their land for
phase II. Their reasoning was eminent domain is supposed to be used
in cases for public benefit. Which in a way is occuring in this case,
but the land was to be turned over to Oceanside 1250 to build the bypass.
In turn Oceanside would turn the roadway over to the county.Check out my blog on Kona issues :
