Unlike "Go For Broke" in the 1950's where the heroes were mostly white, "Only the Brave" tells the story of the 100th Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team from the Nisei point of view. It's something that many of our fathers and grandfathers experienced but never shared with us. For the Nisei veterans, it was just a call to duty and when it was over, there was nothing left to say. It is a legacy that their children need to hear about and to learn from.
There's a World War II monument finally in Washington, DC. Many Nisei veterans have their names inscribed on it.
I hope this film gets picked up for general release soon. All Americans need to know this story and what happened to the families of some of these American heroes who were packed up, shipped to internment camps and stripped of all their rights. May it never happen again to anyone in this country.
P.S. One of the actors in this movie, Yuji Yamamoto (he also was in Karate Kid 2) and his wife Angie own a local grinds restaurant in Seattle called "Kona Kitchen".
