  • Moe Keale item

Interesting item about Uncle Moe in John Berger's column today:

    http://starbulletin.com/2005/01/13/features/index.html

"Close friends of Carol Keale report she is unhappy about a recently released album of recordings made in 1999 while her late husband, Moe Keale, was performing at the Sheraton Waikiki. They say Moe knew the recordings were being made but never gave his approval for them to be released in this way, and that his musicians, Mel Amina and Analu 'Aina, also didn't know the recordings were going to be sold. A third party says "off the record" that as far as the distributor knows, the record label has legal title to the recordings. Could one of those "bruddah-bruddah" deals that come to the surface after one of the parties is dead and gone. Could be a nasty legal situation."

I had to do some digging to see which record label it's on, and finally found that it was put out by Nanu Lawai Records. Some more digging turned up the fact that Roland Chang of the group "Kanilau" runs Nani Lawai Records and Nani Lawai Productions.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
