  • Roll Call: 2004 Tax-Filing Status

I am chomping at the bit to get my taxes filed, but I'm still waiting on my blasted W2s and whatever it is my student-loan creditor sends me every year.

I think it would be fun to hear how people are doing this year. Where are you in the filing process? What are you getting back from the Feds and the State, or what are you having to dish out? How does that compare to last year?
But I'm disturbed! I'm depressed! I'm inadequate! I GOT IT ALL! (George Costanza)

No foget if you go directly to da IRS website, you can file your taxes foa free (dey apparently get one form you can file electronically). And if you do EZ-File over da phone, dey said dis da last year can use da phone. From next year, all going be on da web (kinda stupid, because not everybody get one computer, yeah?)

Me, gotta file da long form because I get too much "stuff" (mortgage, mutual funds lidat). And I already wen go buy Turbotax so if I file electronically using dat, da bank going take out $19.95 foa processing my refund. One good ting is da State of Washington no moa State personal income tax, so oni gotta file one tax form. I know I going get back money, I just dunno how much yet. so I going fool around and den one week befoa April 15, den I going spend one Sunday afternoon whipping dat sucka out.

Yeah, I suppose it's too early to say where the taxes will go this year. My spouse and I received our W2s already, but we're still waiting up on some 1098 statements for mortgage interest stuff.

Our taxes are complicated these days. Boy, do I wish I could just phone those tax values in! We've ended up hiring a tax accountant. His fees are pretty high, but well worth it considering the amount we get back in the return.

So far, we've received a return every year. One year, the return was just a wee bit too high. It was great to get that cash back, bad that you just gave the government an interest free loan!

Over the years, we've been figuring out ways to minimize tax such as increasing 401K contributions or opening up some IRAs. Figuring out deductions can be a tricky thing. Here in CA, they tend to tax the heck out of the residents. Imagine paying $6K a year on property taxes! At least that's deductible

We'll see once April comes along.

I did my taxes here www.online-taxes.com. It did my Federal Taxes correctly.
But did not do my state taxes correctly. So I filed my state taxes here
http://www.ehawaiigov.org/efile. The thing that sucks is that it appears
the state of Hawaii does not have a direct deposit function. So it appears
I'll have to get the state refund through snail mail.

I got 503.00 back from the feds and 42.00 back from the state

Er, how do you know it did them correctly without doing them on paper as well?

I DID THEM ON PAPER !!! before I e-filed them. So I knew they calculated
the state return wrong. It didn''t take into account my COLA and there was
some other things wrong. But on the other hand the federal return was right
on the ball and got accepted by the IRS today.
