  • Road Runner Modem....

    Jan. 27, 2005 Thursday.

    URG!.

Is any one using Road Runner Modem?

I am. I had a problem on Tuesday, Which I really didn't think anything of it.
It was ok on Wednesday. Now, this morning & early evening has been acting up. On some occations, it wont let me connect. Has this happened to any one?? I called & had made arrangements for the Road Runner people to come in & look at it this Friday(Feb. 4th). I called & asked them if they were working on it on my area, & they said no. Now I don't have the foggiest idea why it is acting up on me. I hope that my modem will try to continue to work between now & then. I have had it or a couple of years now. I would think that I shouldn't have any problems with it. Would age & heat inside would have any factors of it??? Can any one please give me any advice &/or help in regards to my road runner modem between now & Feb. 4th?. Thank you. I'll try to reply back, if I don't get to answer back, well....maybe my modem decide to go downhill.
    *(I pray that it doesn't)*

    Aloha.

    Reset the modem?

Is there any flashing lights on the modem?
How'd I get so white and nerdy?

I don't have the Road Runner service, but on occasion, the modem that comcast provides does flake out on me. Have you tried power-cycling the modem and see if that fixes it?

Well My modem looks somewhere close to this link...

        ROAD RUNNER MODEM

Yes, the Data Light should always be flashing.

Yesterday morning, it(Data Light) was not flashing & no pc light on.

One time the test light came on.(I guess that was good(?) )

The only remaing light that was on: Cable & Power.

Yesterday early eve., the Data light was just off.

So far, it acts as if it is doing ok.
I just hope I don't have any problems later.

Would you know why it does that??

        Thanks for the reply back.

        Aloha.

          Reseting it??

I tried to unplug it, & Plug it back on, Nothing much had happened.
I just had to wait until it got better towards the evening.

However, the Modem is still hot.
I hope that it doesn't effect any mechanism inside due to the temperature.

            Power-cycling???

I guess I don't have what you have,
so I probably don't have any idea what you are talking about.

            Sorry.

            Thanks, though.

I think power-cycling is just a fancy term for "unplug the thing, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in." You seem to have done that.

Yes, that is what I meant about power cycling the unit. It's a handy procedure to fix all kinds of issues, especially in the telecom industry

Does the modem work a little while and then flake out?

If the PC light is off, that means the cable modem is not communicating to your PC. Blinking test light could mean your cable modem was rebooting.

If the cable modem does go out again, I'd call up your customer care department and see if there are any outages going on. If there are no outages, then it sounds like something is wrong with the cable modem.

                  yes, it did flake out.

Thank you. I did. They will come by this Feb. 4th to take a look & see what the problem might be.

They couldn't really give me any asnwers over the phone. I will have to wait until they show up.

                  Thanks again.

                    Re: Road Runner Modem....

How long have had the modem ?
Is it Motorola CyberSurfer, Motorola Surfboard 3100/4100 ?
                    Or a Toshiba 1100U, 2500 cable modem.

When I had Road Runner, the modem I got initially
with the service died after 2 years of service.

When you power cycle make sure you do it for 20 seconds.
The data light should be flashing as that means data is flowing
through the modem. The other lights should not be flashing.

I think I have had it for about 2 years Maybe 3.
From Toshiba. Looks some where close to this link...

What did you do after your died after 2 years?
Were you given any information why it died?

I am hoping that the oceanic guys will just replace it for free,
                      if worse come to worse.

                      Well, thanks for eplying back.

                        Re: Road Runner Modem....

It should say on the outside of the unit what model it is. But anyway
I went down to the local Oceanic Cable office here in Kona and exchanged
it. I had a Surfboard 3100 Cable Modem and got a Toshiba 2500 Cable Modem.
Since I'm sort of technically proficient I figured when the unit wouldn't power
on that I had a problem . Since the modem is a part of the service, Oceanic
will replace the modem for free.

                          Aaron S.....

Well, I will have to see what the oceanic guys
have to say about my line & modem when they come in.
Perhaps they might replace it, or fix it. Who knows.

                          Thanks for replying back.

                          Have a good weekend.

                            Sunday Jan. 30, 2005

Today my modem has been acting up again.
I didn't have cable or data light on. I
did unplug it, & waited for it to cool down a bit,
& pluged it back up. It seemed to work, for the time being.
I am thinking, perhaps have the fan running while it is in use,
because the heat is the one that seem to be causing the
trouble on the modem. Has that happen to any one at all?
Is it perhaps the heat??? Waiting for the 4th of Feb.,
seem so long when I am waiting for it.
Well, I hope you all are having a much better day than I am.

                            Aloha, all.

                              Re: Road Runner Modem....

It sounds like the modems power supply unit is going south [going to break
real soon]. The heat should not be a issue as long as the modem is in
a ventilated area. If I were you I would just go the local Oceanic Time Warner
office and get a modem replacement. Make sure you bring your current
modem. They should gladly exchange the modem. I'm suggesting that as
it seems the problem is not going away. These modems are supposed to be
                              warm, it is perfectly normal.
