Well, a couple of days ago a friend and I were in the mood for a tasty lunch served in small bamboo steamers, so we headed over to historic Wo Fat Restaurant on Hotel Street. Lo and behold, despite having been there less than a month before, now it was closed!
The owner took over the New Empress name/location at the Chinese Cultural Plaza. As we walked over, my friend updated me on the game of musical chairs that is local dim sum places - names, locations, owners, and staff, cycling endlessly through countless iterations. And instead of going where the (latest) Wo Fat folks went, we ended up at Good Luck Restaurant on the corner of Maunakea and S. Beretania.
Where do you go for dim sum? There are places all over. Our other usual haunt is the very busy, tourist-attracting Golden Palace on N. King Street.
