  • Sort of OT; Vehicle Rust

How's the salt/rust problem on Oahu? I had some friends that lived on Nantucket Island, and their vehicles wouldn't make it more than 4 or 5 years without serious corrosion damage. I suppose if you live right on the beach and don't have a garage, things could get ugly quick. How 'bout the rest of the island?

    Vehicle Rust in Hawaii

I've seen my share of rusted out surfmobiles, but I really don't think rust is a problem here the way it is in any other state in the U.S. where salting roads is a common practice. That one practice has even made hunting for older cars here, from there, moderately attractive for some folks.

I know a lot of people who live near seaspray use car covers, but I know a lot who don't. A relative of mine lives on the shore in Aina Haina, and he has an open garage, but he washes his car a lot (and tends to lease) so rust has never been a problem.
