  • Verizon DSL

Evidently they changed the pricing on the 3Mbps/768K
service to 29.95 a month with a year contract for Verizon DSL.
I'm going to call them to see if I can get the lower rate.
As I'm paying 39.95 a month for the same service w/ a year
    contract.

      Re: Verizon DSL

What's the level of service given to the basic, household subscriber? I think I'm paying $29/mo., but I know it wasn't anything particularly special, just what you get in a Priority Mail box after filling out a form on the web. If they've lowered the rate for a higher service level, I wonder if it'll translate to savings for conventional users too?

Anyone know how DSL versus cable penetration is going, generally? DSL got the cable companies scared a while back, but in this business, it's dog eat dog and things change quick.

My advice is to call Verizon, and check to see what speed you're configured for currently, my guess is that you have a 1.5/128 connection, and based on Verizon's current offerings, you should be able to get 3.0/768 for the same price.

This only applies if you are a Verizon Online customer, not a customer homed to a local ISP.

I have had Verizon Online DSL almost a year already. I have had
3.0/768K service since November 2004. Before that I had 1.5/384K service.

Its 29.95 w/ a year contract for both 1.5Mbps/3.0Mbps service now.
It is 37.95 a month for month to month 1.5Mbps service and probably
the 3.0 service is still 44.95 for month to month via Verizon Online.

If you have 3.0Mbps service already with a year contract the price downgrade should happen automatically. According to the CSR I spoke
to the price downgrade happened March 21, 2005.

New customers to Verizon Online can get this new rate also as far as I understand.

Oh I see, I thought you were having problems with inconsistent RR numbers... but actually it was your friend who had the problems.

Hmmm...interesting. I'd been reading dslreports.com and it always seemed like 3MBps service was something the mainland had but not here (since it seems like we're the last to get everything...)

Right now I've got the $29.95 rate for 1.5/384. Do you have to be a certain distance from the CO to qualify? (I'm about 2.5 miles away.)

                        Dear Verizon,

What's so fucking hard about giving me a static address that you're willing to charge $79.95 ($40.00 more) for a 3.1/768 connection?

                        With Loathing,

                        -K

The 3Mbps/768K service has been available here since November 2004.
I have had it since then, and have been very pleased with it. You have
to be 12,000 feet from the CO to qualify.I would personally take the plunge.
