  • So many choices...which will survive?

Once the SuperFerry and FlyHi come online, locals will have all kinds of options for interisland travel.

This article from the Advertiser this morning says that while islanders will enjoy a bidding war for their business in the short term, the number of interisland travellers has decreased consistently over the years, primarily because tourists can now fly direct to Maui and the Big Island and because most of the neighbor islands now have the big box stores that Oahu has, obviating the need for neighbor islanders to make that annual shopping trip to Ala Moana.

So if both Hawaiian and Aloha get out of the interisland business (which might be a reality because the jets both use are not very cost effective on short haul flights, necessitating the higher fares), that would still leave consumers with choices (Island Air, FlyHi, the Superferry and the charter airlines), although flying on a jet will no longer be an option.
