While the media is still trying to dissect the Michael Jackson case, a very significant jury decision was announced today that righted a 41 year-old civil rights wrong. Someone was finally indicted for the murder of 3 voting rights workers who were in Philadelphia, MS, trying to register black voters in 1964.
Finally, the hold of the KKK in the south is starting to erode. This is especially meaningful to me because I went to school with one of the murder victims' brother (David Goodman went to the same college I did).
Even though it was so long in coming, justice is finally riding into the South. It wouldn't surprise me if more indictments are now issued. The most jail time any of the KKK murderers got was like 10 years. Being in his 80s and in poor health, whatever sentence is finally bestowed on "Preacher" Killens will amount to a life sentence.
