  • What's next for the 2 main political parties?

    With Republicans sounding and acting more and more like Democrats (except for the party hardliners and neocons), and Democrats sounding and acting more like Republicans these days, what's next in the evolution of the 2-party political system we have?

    Former Sen. Gary Hart (he of the "Monkey Business" fame and former candidate for President) has some thoughts on the next generation of politicians.

    next for the 2 main political parties?

    What's next for the 2 main U.S. political parties?

    - - A more Republican, regressive judiciary.

    - - An ever more fiscally and morally corrupted and bankrupt nation.

    - - A less gullible U.S. public when it comes to US militarists' corporatUSt$ schemes for empire buildings to foster terrorUSt$ dreams.

    - - A world of peoples who better understand the degree to which the United States has been hijacked by militarist corporatism, and, better understand the degree to which the United States is misinformed, misled, mismanaged, misdirected.

      >> > >

      _ _More regressive judiciary? We shall see when the majority opinion of the 9th circuit court courses through US's justUS system and US'$ congrUS$ toward a Supreme Court consideration to potentially reward US$-grubbing lawyers' "Doe boy", and of course, reward Doe's attorneys themselves for their perverting the intended purpose of an 1860's post-Civil War mandate that was meant to take US Anlgo-Saxons' yoke and whip off an oppressed peoples in more ways than just literally.

      _ _ An ever more fiscally and morally corrupted and bankrupt nation? A nation in free fall, no matter how often or loudly they annouce that it is "freedom for all" . The uniquely U.S. American end-of-worlders are winning the lead in prayers answered toward their falsely presumed salvation through Armageddon. Today's, right now's, US warlords take some pleasure in U.S. polls which suggest there is a solid significant fraction of U.S. pollees who want to "lay waste to Iran, consequences be whatever they may, the U.S. and Israel in Palestine will be the better for it; especially if there's going to be an Armageddon anyway!!".

      _ _ A less gullible U.S. public when it comes to US militarists' corporatUSt schemes for empire building to foster terrorUSt$ dreams? An increasingly less gullible U.S. public when it comes to imperialUSt schemes and wars, coincident with an increasingly impotent U.S. public when it comes to ending imperialUSt$' schemes and wars.

      _ _ A world of peoples who better understand the degree to which the United States has been hijacked by militarist corporatism, and, better understand the degree to which the United States is misinformed, misled, mismanaged, misdirected? A virtually powerless world of peoples whose ever better understanding of the corruption which is the United States, its foreign policy, its economy and to a profound degree its society, a virtually powerless world of peoples whose own fate is inextricably entwined with that of imperialUSt$' success in dominating the United States and the empire which affords its maintenance.

        Re: What's next for the 2 main political parties?

        Many Americans embrace ideals from both sides of the current political coin.

        Why can't we have gay marriage AND prayer in schools?

        Why can't we CHOOSE to kill - either babies or criminals.

        Why can't we help SOME nations, and fight others, purely based upon ideologies? Especially if you actually think there is a difference between right and wrong.

        Why can't we shop for bargains and haggle - either at the local organic farmers market, or when shopping for a large, inexpensive labor force to manufacture something?

        Why can't we build tall buildings so that more and more people have better views, instead of preserving the view for one person somewhere up the hill? I thought democracy was about helping the most people, not the individual.

        I could go on and on with these kinds of examples.

          Re: What's next for the 2 main political parties?

          The 2 main political parties are mak-e die dead because they no longer stand for different things (just the same thing said in different ways). Anyone who still is entrenched with being loyal to one or the other political party risks disappointment every 6-8 years or so. Better to be independent and vote for the BEST candidate after you've done your own homework on the issues that matter to you than to vote a strict party line. That is unless you're too damned lazy to think for yourself and have to rely on a political party to tell you how to vote.

            And many more are either blind to, or pathologically opposed to all that is not of that "two-sided political coin" charade.

            "Why can't we have gay marriage AND prayer in schools?"
            "The current political coin" seems to be giving you some of each somewhere in the United States.
            ===== ==== ===

            "Why can't we help SOME nations, and fight others, purely based upon ideologies?"
            Why bother about ideology when just self-interest will do? "Fight for liquid fossil fuel in the Middle East? Absolutely.", "Fight to prevent genocide in Africa? Are you kidding?."
            ==== === ==
            "Why can't we shop for bargains and haggle, (foster exploited) inexpensive labor force to manufacture something (for US) ?"
            That's "The American Way", is there any other way?
            ==== === ==

            "Why can't we build tall buildings so that more and more people have better views, instead of preserving the view for one person somewhere up the hill?" Yes, and ' the water, sewage, waste infrastructure will take care of itself; besides, the reefs are dead, wildlife is all but gone or on the way to being gone.
            "I thought democracy was about helping the most people, not the individual."
            Democracy has more to with humans equitably and peacefully coexisting in the reality of Earth's limited resources. Corporatism and Democracy are antonyms.

            "I could go on and on with these kinds of examples."
            Then you must also have what it takes to elucidate the point(s?) you are attempting to make.

              humans equitably and peacefully coexisting VS. the reality of Earth's limited resources.

              When it comes right down to brass tacks, the peaceful humans could be in for a rude awakening when the resources are actually starting to feel limited.

              Peace and equity will take a back seat to survival of the fittest.

                .
                I think the resources are starting to feel limited now ($3+ gas prices all over the country not just in Hawai'i, or lack of affordable housing, to give two examples), but the rude awakening is still lacking for many Americans. It's "just suck in your gut and proceed as usual unless and until I can't get MY fair share of the resources!"
