Re: Serenity: no lie, I spy sci fi I wanna try

not surprisingly, the sci fi channel has snagged all 14 episodes of joss whedon's short-lived fox series firefly in anticipation of the release of the movie.

also, if you're interested, you can watch a behind the scenes look at serenity on channel 61 (E!) on thursday at 8:30 am (time to program the vcr) and an old episode of firefly (title: war stories) will air on the scifi channel this friday at 4 pm.

One of the current featurettes on the TiVo system is a Serenity promo.

The promo actually mentions a major "Serenity"/"Firefly" fan website, FireFlyFans.net, which just so happens to be run by a local guy who's even posted here on HawaiiThreads.

I'd love to see the movie. Chances are, we'll have to wait for the DVD.

watched it this afternoon and liked it. even though it's not an A in my book, i thoroughly enjoyed it. i'd give it a B+. funny dialogue and some cool fights with river....

I saw it on Saturday with a couple of friends at Ward. I liked it never mind the fact that I am biased towards space operas anyway and due to timing I have only seen 2 or 3 episodes of the series on the sci-fi channel.

hey helen, i'm glad you liked it. for anyone who's a die hard fan of f.f. (just got into it myself), you'll know that the box office numbers have not been very good. this comes as a great disappointment to the hard core fans cuz they were hoping that great numbers would mean a possible revived tv series or at least a sequel to serenity. after dvd sales, the movie will probably just break even

I wanted to see this, but I waited too long. It's already gone from the $1 theater. Will wait for DVD release.
                      I'm still here. Are you?

Re: Serenity: no lie, I spy sci fi I wanna try

Got lucky at Blockbuster the other night and got the last copy of Serenity. My husband saw it when it came out in theaters and LOVED it, so I had high expectations. Also, I enjoy sci-fi almost as much as I love period drama, so I was very eager to see it. Sadly, though, I was disappointed to find it played very much like a made-for-t.v. movie. The storyline was not compelling and I never cared deeply about the characters. Perhaps if I had seen the quickly-canceled Firefly show it would have been different.

On a different subject, the one storyline from a t.v. show that I still think about years later is the Borg story from Star Trek: The Next Generation. If the scriptwriters could have reduced that whole storyline to 2 hours, I think it would have done well in theaters (resistance to it would have been futile, as they say).

U'ilani, you're not alone so don't feel too bad. for firefly fans, joss whedon can do no wrong and the fan site/message board at http://groups.google.com/group/alt.t...?lnk=srg&hl=en have fans who are fanatical about anything related to firefly/serenity.

after kimo mentioned the movie, i watched the firefly series and liked it. i'm not super crazy about it but if you watch the one season that exists, i think you'll enjoy the movie a whole lot more. the characters are pretty interesting and the lines can be very funny. fans familiar with the tv series have a LOT of background info that the first time serenity viewer will miss so it comes as no surprise that fans of the tv series love the movie.

e.g., remember the scene where the operative says to mal, "you can't make me angry" and inara says something like "spend an hour with him, please"? the line's funny as is but it means a lot more if you know about the relationship between mal and inara (they always fight about almost everthing!).

                              anyway, just my two cents.
