    is paying off for at least 2 agricultural projects on Maui, which were awarded USDA Conservation Security Project contracts.

    "...“If Hawaii’s going to remain in agriculture, we need to leave an industry behind for the next generation,” said Kaupo Ranch Manager Alex Franco, whose 8,000-acre operation runs about 2,500 head.

    That’s where sustainable practices come in – methods that don’t contribute to erosion or water pollution, and protect rather than deplete natural resources.

    With that in mind, “you can leave something behind,” Franco said....
