OK folks, I tried asking about this song a couple of years ago on Usenet but didn't get anywhere. Does anyone recognize this song that I'm thinking of?
Each verse focuses on a different person - an urban young man with all the latest gadgets, an old man in a rural setting, etc. Each verse ends with the words, "he's had to sacrifice for his island life (island life!)"
It's by a female singer - I suspected Melinda Carroll, but didn't find anything close on her albums.
It's probably from the 1980s, or maybe the early 1990s, and it's got a jazzy rhythm.
Does this sound familiar? Who sang this song, what album is it on, and is there anywhere online I can find the complete lyrics?
