  • Vintage TV ads you think about years after...

    When I was 19, there was an ad for Easy Spirit shoes. The clip was a basketball game and the women were all wearing ES pumps. You never see above their knees, just the ball dribbling and the women's footwork. I can still recall that ad til this day, because I was determined to buy me a pair of those pumps ("if those girlies can play basketball in pumps, this tita ought to be able to walk in 'em"). And for the last 20 years, I have dropped big dollas on ES shoes.

    Another one was a Nike ad, where each athlete was seriously scarred. I always admired the courage of those people to be featured in that ad.

    And in a similar vein, a Cingular ad had a man who was seriously disabled, but was a fantastic painter.

    These ads haunt my dreams occasionally. What about you?

      One of the all time classic favorites was shown only once during the 1984 Super Bowl Game. You can see it at this link:

            It's not that vintage, but, you know that Mitsubishi commercial where they play "Hound Dog" and it's moving real fast, etc. I swear that music is the reason we see really ugly Mitsubishi cars on the road.

            Well when a 2-year-old and her kid sister hear such music, they have their own idea as to what it is. We created a CD with the music from "For the Kids" on it and a few extras like Phish, CCR, Cheryl Crow, Beck...Well when "Hound Dog" comes on they still ask us to crank it and they scream "HIT ME WITH YOUR CORN DOG!!!"

            It's kinda funny. I can only imagine what it's like being around my minivan when the windows are sealed and the kids and mom are inside bebopping to Corn Dog cranked up enough to cause seismic reactions on the Big Island.

                I always thought that McDonalds ads were good when they would say : "you deserve a break today". Back then it was all about burgers, health wasn't an issue, you knew what kind of food you were going to get at Mickey-Ds. I still think if you want a salad or chicken at a "BURGER" joint....please go somewhere else!
                Healthy food at fast food resturants..."I'm NOT Lovin' It.
                We STILL deserve a break today!

                  ...oh golly this thread is harRASsing my dreams.

                  Because as I was frying chicken last night, I recalled that Wesson Oil commercial from the 70's, where a family emergency had the mom turning off the stove digging out. Then, when they came back....that chicken had been soaking in the oil a WHOLE HOUR and yet it tasted GREAT!

                  Huh-ahh(breathe)ahaga-HACK! {{{huuurrrrlll}}}

                    Mister Owl, how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop?

                    Let's see. One... two... CRUNCH! three. Three.

                    Damn, I keep thinking "Tutsi" instead of "Tootsie". Wonder if they sell those candies in Rwanda.
