Do you think the compilation albums and/or the fully instrumental albums will have a tougher time this go 'round being that that's what won last year?

Do you think there's still a problem with understanding the 'feel' and sound of Hawaiian music to the voting mainlander's ear that would give an album with a mix that includes contemporary/crossover an edge over an album with strictly a tradish sound?

What are your thoughts on the noms?

Umm....do they ever let the artists know about where they placed other than letting the winner know they won? Like last year, do the nominees know how many votes they accumulated at all?

Re: Hawaiian Grammy Nominees for 2006

Just for the sake of clarification, these are not the nominees. These
are the albums from the past year that have been deemed eligible to be
considered as nominees. Recording Academy members may choose up to
five albums from this list that they feel should be the nominees (then
from the top five vote-getters, which will be considered the nominees,
members will choose - in mid-December - the winner.)

(I am a voting member of both NARAS & HARA, btw.)

But of course. If only the Academy could be that clever.

Seemed fitting considering that now's the time for getting noticed by the voting members, or trying to.

Then after all the teasing and carressing is done and having been gone over by each member who gets a vote...up to five times....figurativly speaking...*ahem*

If ya don't get picked one could end up feeling down right fooked

Re: Hawaiian Grammy Eligibility for 2006

Keola posted a nice correction on Nahenahe.net:

I had been referring to the list as the "nominees", and that is incorrect. These are eligible "entries", and are not yet "nominees". Nominees are those five acts from each category that make the final ballot. "Categories" are the specific genre within a larger "Field". For example, the Hawaiian, Native American, Traditional Folk and Contemporary Folk categories are part of a larger "Folk" field. So simply getting your name on the eligible entry list doesn't make you a Grammy nominee until your release makes the final ballot.

Also, to clear up some misconception that still seems to linger, there was only one winner last year for the Hawaiian Album Grammy - Charles Michael Brotman. I've seen some references to the other artists on that release as "Grammy winners" as well. That's inaccurate. It's more accurate to say that they "contributed to the Grammy Award winning album". This may be seen as splitting hairs, but this is how it is defined within the Academy so I wanted to be as accurate as possible.
