"John Spencer, who played a dedicated politico on "The West Wing" who survived a serious illness to run for vice president, died of a heart attack Friday, his publicist said. Spencer, 58, died at a Los Angeles hospital, said publicist Ron Hofmann."

Wow. That was sudden, and is quite tragic. I only knew him through The West Wing, but he was most definitely one of the show's anchors.

I am not a viewer of The West Wing, but do remember John Spencer as a great character actor from when he was on the TV series L.A. Law, which I used to regularly watch in the late 1980s. It is sad to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.
