choosing hospitals in HNL

[Pua'i Mana'o]

As a neighbor-islander, I become fascinated when I hear about so&so going allll the way to O'ahu to get the best treatment from the fine facilities there. But aside from Kapi'olani (which I know is for women and children) and Tripler (military) I don't know the first thing about which hospital has a rep for this/that speciality, ailment, etc.

When would one go to Queens? Kuakini? Straub? What other hospitals are there?

I get the impression that Straub has the rep for handling burns, while Queens seem to be the place where car accident traumas go.

As far as non-emergency stuff it depends on your health plan and your primary care doctor.

As far as more serious surgeries, it depends more on the skill of the surgeon, as well as the quality of the post-op care staff in the ICU.
