  • Mongolian Spots

When my daughter was an infant, I noticed that in her 3rd or 4th week of life she developed a blue/purple spot on her rear end. It looked like a bruise, but a friend told me it's called a Mongolian spot and that a lot of Asian infants have it and that it will eventually fade and then disappear by the time she's a toddler.

Anyway, I'm wondering if Hawaiian (blooded) infants who don't have any Asian blood also have Mongolian spots. Anyone know?

    Re: Mongolian Spots

Especially if you are on the mainland where it is not as common, make sure you get it documented in your child's medical records about the "black & blue" okole being a birthmark. It has happened before that someone else(babysitter, nurse, etc) saw such a mark and reported it as child abuse! Having it documented as a birthmark can save you alot of trouble proving otherwise.
