  • Albino rock!

We were discussing albino cockroaches in another thread, and I mentioned that I was going to name one either Johnny or Edgar, and wanted to see who could guess the relevance. But rather than prolong the dreaded 'thread drift' there, I started this thread here to note that I was referring (as Kimo knew) to the famous (and infamous) and incredibly talented albino rock star brothers Johnny and Edgar Winters:

Johnny's website is at http://johnnywinter.net/welcome/ and it mentions "He formed his first band, Johnny and the Jammers, in 1959 at the age of 15, with his 12-year-old brother Edgar on keyboards.
    (...)
"Johnny begins playing clarinet at age five; switches to ukelele and then guitar a few years later."

Edgar's website is at http://edgarwinter.com/home.php and among all the other information are some great photos of the boys:

Edgar & Johnny as kids: http://edgarwinter.com/pic.php?ImageID=144

As adults: http://edgarwinter.com/pic.php?ImageID=120 and http://edgarwinter.com/pic.php?ImageID=1242 and onstage at http://edgarwinter.com/pic.php?ImageID=1241

I suppose I could put Johnny and, especially, Edgar in that thread about "Celebrities You've Met", but that's another story for another time.
    .
    .

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I remember albino reggae star Yellowman. My favorite albino star Victor Varnado he is an actor/comic who has appeared in End Of Days and Pluto Nash.

Nope, not Sue's fault... was mine first... the end of the first paragraph in post #1 of this thread.
My bad. Only excuse is that I worked over 15 hours straight, so was a bit fuzzy.

Think 1973. Edgar's song "Frankenstein" was #1 on the charts. Ring any bells now? That might be the easiest 'name recognition'.
Edgar's version back then of the classic "Tobacco Road" also is easily on my list of all-time favorites.

Since nuthin' rang a bell, I previewed 'Frankenstein' and, while I was there, 'Free Ride' in iTunes. I love 'Frankenstein' but it still doesn't ring a familiar bell. 'Free Ride' sounded a bit familiar. Both songs appear on the 1973 'Billboard Hot 100'. Edgar Winter (or the Winter brothers) just completely escaped my 70s music listening...or my memory of my 70s music listening! And, that's with no drugs or alcohol! Maybe that was the problem!
