For the able-bodied, non-mentally ill:
1. Quit smoking. Take the $300 a month you spend on cigarettes and put it toward rent and/or food. Use some of the money to keep your clothes clean (laundromat) so you can prepare yourself for job interviews.
2. If you're on illegal drugs, find help to get off of them. The health benefits are obvious, and you need to offer prospective employers a clean, clear-headed applicant.
3. If you don't have a job, use every minute of every day to focus on doing whatever it takes to get one. Keep your clothes and yourself clean, avoid drugs (including cigarettes), avoid people who do drugs. Sitting around smoking and yakking with people is time you could use to prepare for a job interview.
Simplistic? Yep.
