  • Spam via PM

Did anyone else receive a PM spam titled:
    INVESTMENT ENQUIRY ON ESTATE PROPERTIES.

Just curious as to whether or not this spammer is PMing one by one or if there's some way the HT software allows him/her to spam in one fell swoop.

It's 'signed' by 'DR MOHAMEED BELLO'.

    Weird.

Not latey but I had one some time ago. I don't remember who it was from.

Oh to answer your question the PM feature only allows up to 5 users to be PM at a time.

Sadly, though it hardly seems worth the trouble to sign up for and validate an account only to spam people through this site's internal Private Messaging system (which, as helen notes, would take some time for any remotely satisfying number of people), people still do it. One advantage is that it might fly under the radar (versus posting an actual thread to spam).

If you get a spammer PMing you here at HawaiiThreads, please forward the message and the username to me.

Oh damn. I had two of those today and just deleted them without forwarding to you, Zarq. They did have the same heading and signature as the one mentioned above.

was this a pm like he was asking to transfer funds of a few million dollars that he needed to put into a trust account or something and ud get some kind of cheque like 10% of it or something to that effect ? If so, I get those once in a while through email. they are scams and should be either discarted or sent to your local police. A few people have fallen for those here in Canada as it was advertised on t.v.

            Or just plain deleate it

Receiving this spam and it's content isn't the issue. I get 'em all the time in email. Receiving it via HawaiiThreads.com private message option is. It's interesting that a spammer would sign up then be able to send only 5 spams at a time. Forums like HT aren't spam magnets so it's unusual to see one. Earlier posts in this thread explain it.

Ok, so who is actually falling for this scam that makes it worthwhile for people to do things like sign up here just to spam 5 people at a time? C'mon, fess up. Who is responding to the bait and thus subjecting other innocent people to it?

for people to believe such a thing/scam you have to be really "stupid" excuse my language here but i cant find a more appropriate name for this. I mean, c'mon ! you really believe that that person will actually transfer funds and send u a cheque ? well yeah you will get a cheque but guess what ? it's gonna bounce anyways... its been said too many times here in Canada and even advertised on some t.v. consumer programs.. so lets be smart here ! you'll never get $$ so easily.. if it seems too good to be true then IT IS !!!

One of the funniest Web sites I ever saw, was referred to me at the time we at the S-B were getting several Nigerian scam e-mails daily -- a few years back. I think Blaine sent me the link and I kept it.

It heralds a "Nigerian e-mail Conference" featuring a familiar roster of speakers and seminar topics. Hysterical.

I just checked and it's still there. LOL!
