  • South Kohala Proposed Developments

Rather interesting and shocking to see what is coming down the pike in South
Kohala on the Big Island. Bear in mind most if not all of these developers are
not required to build infrastructure to mitigate the effects of their respective projects.

    Re: South Kohala Proposed Developments

It is considered normal practice throughout the US for government to build roads and infrastructure. It is interesting to me where this notion of developers building infrastructure comes from.

The problem we have on the West Side of Hawaii is that anytime the county has a plan to build a road, somebody has a reason to say NO. Hokulia Highway, Alli Parkway, Makalei connector, ANY overpass, all killed because a small fraction of people showed up in force to say NO for this or that reason.

It is sometimes difficult to identify who the real "villians" are.

Tim, you might want to acquaint yourself with Adequate Public Facilities Ordinances (APFO) or concurrency ordinance. Both require adequate infrastructure to be in place before any new development can take place.

Bear in mind these ordinances do not apply to already entitled projects.
As that would be equal to government going back on its word.

I'm all for concurrency. But it should come with a clause that defeats ALL facets of the Politics of NO.

Friday will be another planning commission meeting at the King Kam. It will be more like a church service honoring the Politics of NO. Count the testifiers and see how many say NO. Betcha its over 90%.
