      Makani circle-Hilo

I found a place to live on Makani circle in Hilo.

Anyone know if this is a comfortable area? The owner of the house has his own business making bonsai trees. Sounds pretty cool.

      Anyone hear of this guy?

        Re: Makani circle-Hilo

Looks like a good spot to me, though I don't know the street specifically. I used to always joke about buying a house on nearby Kawailani street, since that's my middle name. Seems to be tucked far back in that subdivision, so probably pretty quiet. A bit of a hike to UHH on foot, but otherwise, nicely situated for school as well.

Boy, are you in for a surprise....there are not too many places to catch a wave in Hilo. Cultivate another hobby.

You can surf at Honolii, just north of Hilo ... but watch out for murky water due to canefield runoff.

My school mates used to surf at Kalapana's Black Sand Beach at Kaimu ... prior to the mid-1970s earthquake and the 1983 eruption at Pu'u Kahauale'a. The ongoing, decades-long eruption eventually filled in Queen's Bath, which had been my favorite swimming spot on earth.

As for other hobbies, you can go fishing at "Isles" by Suisan, or risk your health and swim at Reed's Bay/Ice Pond ... it was at least urban legend that the water is polluted (by sewage).
