  • Re-Zoning Moratorium

This is a letter to the editor I sent to WHT,HTH,HIJ etc today.

I believe the time has come to implement a
new re-zonings moratorium on development in West Hawaii.
If we don't, I believe that we'll never catch up with the infrastructure
shortcomings that are plaguing us here. As a long time
kama'aina, born and raised in Kona, it is really distressing
me to see all this rapid development occurring without adequate
    infrastructure to support it.

Yes I realize Kona has been "discovered." But
at what cost ? Daily traffic jams, inadequate parks and recreational
facilities, hospitals,a maxed out water supply - I really could go on.
This is all a result of a short sighted state and county governments
willing to make that quick buck off developers, but unwilling to
build the needed infrastructure to support these mega projects being
    built by these same developers.

Hence why I strongly believe a new re-zonings
moratorium is desperately needed. I know developers are going to
cry foul if this transpires. But honestly, to me its a wakeup call
that we need to improve our horrific business climate and diversify
our economy so we are not held hostage to the whims of these
    developers.
