  • A new newby!!! :)

Hi everyone! My name is Dani and i am very new to this site. I just wanted to say hello! I currently live in New Jersey. I was in Hawaii a long time ago and fell in love with it. I will be making an attempt to move to Honolulu in September. So i'm just here to make some new friends and get any information i can regarding expenses, relocation, and places to go. I know many of you don't like us mainlanders moving over here...but no worries! I come in peace and love everything about this beautiful part of the world...So i hope you can show a lil' ol mainlander some love! I hope to talk to you soon!

Don't blame you for wanting to move, I myself just escaped that east coast soul-killing state. What area do you live in?

Apparently hot chicks can transition more easily. Try to be one of those. Welcome.

Nothing to understand - just riffin' on a rhyme of "newby" - no depth to it. Again, welcome!

I think Whitepoint3rchum wasnted to know where in NJ you are living (I would think just the exit number would be enough info.)

Ah ok, ok. I used to live in Union in the north and I just escaped WASPville, AKA Spring Lake (near Belmar, Manasquan, Sea Girt).

What exactly did you fall in love with? Most people fall in love with Waikiki, which I must say is not Hawai'i. And when they move here, they realize it's not exactly what they thought, and end up moving back to the mainland. Although Hawai'i does have many beautiful aspects, living here is not vacationing here. Since the state loves spending money in Waikiki and ignoring the rest of the state, again, Waikiki is far from Hawai'i. Just be aware.

I'm sure there are some local folks, of varied ethnicities, who live in Waikiki and love it.

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law (now on the mainland) lived in Waikiki and HATED IT.

They lived there because it was conveniently close to his gigs (he's a musician). They were close to lots of fun places to go, and more importantly, close to home late at night ... but by and large they hated the noise reverberating around the concrete canyons ... ambulances at all hours, fights at all hours (domestics, drunken brawls on the street), other crimes, etc.
Oh, and don't even get them started about jackhammers at 7 a.m. ... for the long-lasting and oft-maligned Kuhio Ave. project.

They miss a lot of stuff about Hawaii -- but not living in Waikiki.
