  • Navy testing off Ewa Beach causes concern

So I wonder why the DoD didn't send out any warnings about the underwater testing they did yesterday until AFTER they received many calls from worried citizens who thought they had witnessed some kind of disaster? With everybody being on edge over what's going on in other parts of the world, you'd think our government would be more sensitive about things like that. Or maybe the testing was supposed to be "secret"? What would have happened if there had been fishing boats in the immediate area of the blast when it was detonated?

"...U.S. Coast Guard officials confirmed that an underwater explosion had taken place -- but after receiving many calls and sending rescue crews to the area.

After the explosion at about 3:30 p.m., the Coast Guard broadcast a warning to mariners, notifying them a scheduled underwater detonation by the U.S. Navy had taken place and that they should not be alarmed.

But residents along the Ewa coast had no idea what was going on. Some called 911 and reported that they thought the explosion was caused by an airplane or helicopter crash-landing on the water.

Fire rescue crews conducted an aerial search of the area for about 90 minutes but said they found no sign of any crash.

"No sign of aircraft or debris on the water or anything," Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said. "We didn't find any evidence of an emergency, so we don't know what caused the explosion."

If the mechanisms were in place to notify folks afterward, and they did so, it does seem odd that they neglected to issue any advance warnings. Especially since emergency resources were mobilized to check it out. Maybe they didn't want to promise an earth-shattering kaboom if, in fact, the test failed!

I loved how, on KITV, Dick Allgire was dispatched out to Ewa Beach, where he found two "witnesses" to interview live on camera. They were two very excited, camera-struck kids, maybe seven or eight years old, breathlessly telling Dick about a helicopter crash... or two. He's lucky they didn't say it was an alien spacecraft! Even more entertaining was how, in his follow up report, he made reference to "witness accounts" but definitely downplayed the helicopter crash scenario.

I when read the Advertiser this morning it did mention that the Coast Guard was aware of the test and notified marniers (the people on the boats) about the test.

Granted there was no warning to the people on the shore about the test. Should have the Navy notified the public about it? Maybe the next time they will.

There has been a vague mention in the Local Notice To Mariners for the past several weeks. Here is a link to the most recent one.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

You mean this little notice, buried in the middle of all the other things mentioned in that bulletin? Doesn't mention whether it's undersea or surface testing...Hopefully they'll make things a little more clear next time so landlubbers don't get freaked out.

A military unit will be conducting hazardous operations within a 9NM radius of position 20-20N, 158-35W from July 01 - 26, 2006. In the interest
of safety, all mariners not involved in the operations remain clear of the area.

Maybe the D0D was just testing to see if Hawaii State officials could keep a secret, yet maybe no state officials knew in advance, not even Civil Defense or the National Guard since the local U.S. Coast Guard does not reveal any advance knowledge of the D0D's detonation(s),,, not to mean upper echelon Coast Guard was not in the D0D's Homeland Security "know on a need-to-know" loop.

If there were any surface vessels in the vicinity of any sea-surface eruption from the sub-surface detonation(s), such a victim vessel's survivors if any, would likely not fare as well as the Japanese vessel and crew which the Navy's nuclear submarine rammed and sank a couple of years ago south of Hawai'i Island. At least the submarine crew was alerted to the need for rescue of the sunken ship's survivors.

In the week prior to these past two weeks of D0D's RIMPAC exercises, west and northly of O'ahu and Kaua'i, of "international" joint military operation(s) (one can be sure they have monikers!) Emperor Akihito's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi was being pampered, entertained and no doubt rewarded, by wBush's U.S. Treasury, with a few more bogUS 'certificates of "good faith" (promise-sorry notes) ' in exchange for Japan's once again rolling-over, spiral re-investment of, Japan's hundreds of billion$US into the bankrupt U.S. Treasury, maintaining Japan's US I-Owe-You account at Treasury as a never-to-be-sought redemption of US indebtedness to the Government of Japan...but, is such indebtedness yet equal to the U.S.-incurred financial costs of imperialUSt$' fascism's defeat of imperialist Japanese fascism?

If not yet, then, when the amount Japan has invested in the U.S. Treasury is enough to cover the costs (inflation plus interests?) of the Manhattan Project, including the cost of the two bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki (whose anniversaries of their annihilations and destructions are next week),,, when those U.S. costs are covered, more like "re-covered", then, some may suggest, it is time to write off what the U.S. Treasury owes Japan, and begin a new U.S./Japan account starting at zero.

Such would be a strategic first step to restore some sense of dignity to the U.S. Treasury, which Treasury has not tasted since it seized Iran's assests/investments from American financial institutions in 1978, including a huge Iranian downpayment on never delivered U.S. arms.

Could not an even more significant step toward salvaging the U.S. Treasury be taken by siezing China's investment in the U.S. Treasury? By the U.S. snaring China into a U.S.-dominated nuclear-showdown, over Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, North Korea and/or U.S. Space weapons platforms and transmission stations?

Back to Japan's Prime Minister Elvis Koizumi at Presley, Inc. Graceland's Elvis Presley theme-park where George and Laura Bush presented Elvis Koizumi with a rare pair of the real Elvis's boxers, autographed and certified authentic, DNA-tested, the works -/-Sothbey's estimates PM Elvis's gift boxers could fetch at least a couple million$US. -\- for future cloning purposes if not just for sentimental value alone.--- At about the same time Elvis Junichiro and his hosts were reveling in their Elvis Presley seance, a federal court was issuing (going thru the motions of doing issuing, at any rate) an injuction against U.S. Navy/Japan/others' Hawaii/Pacific sub-marine war-games using high intensity sonar emissions which forced deep water dwelling melonhead whales to attempt to beach themselves on Kaua'i's north shore two years ago.

The court's apparent ruling lasted just long enough for Elvis Koizumi to get back to Japan where he could add his new boxers to his Elvis Presley shrine of memorabilia, and his host President Bush could get back to ignoring Zionazirael's invasion of Gaza amid final preparations for USrael's invasion of Lebanon. So the Navy entertains the enviromental activists who had filed the suit with some specious concessions to the activists' officers and staff wherein the Navy just went ahead and did/are doing what they wanted to do in the first place.
