I agree... I didn't laugh once, despite howls from the canned audience.

But then again, it's just beta testing...

I went down to see the Simpson's Movie today. Even though I never really watched the Simpsons regularly... ever. The movie was pretty funny, although it got a little stale at the end. Some good jokes at the start though :P

I agree - I went and saw it last night. I was laughing out loud through the first half. Still enjoyed the second half, but it didn't have as many jokes. Definitely worth seeing if you are a Simpsons fan. I thought the movie was much funnier than normal episodes.

                    Re: The Simpsons Movie

Ditto the previous reviews. I saw it at Koolau on Friday at 12:30 (first screening). Laughed aloud several times in the first half hour. Still laughed, just not as much, in the second half hour. Was pretty much finished laughing by then.

I guess there are a few approaches you can take to a movie-length TV show: You can write it the way you write the TV show, cramming as much as you can into every minute, or you can take advantage of the longer form, and take your time with things. The writers of The Simpsons chose the latter, at least for the second half of the film. It was always interesting, but it wasn't always funny.

Watch out if you have kids. I mean, just be prepared for one cartoon penis and one two-handed bird-flip.

If it's the scene shown in the promo, it's really a hot dog. Or is this a different scene?

Same scene, but that's not what I'm talking about. Don't want to spoil it; just take my word that there's a little wee-wee.

More stuff as a warning to parents taking kids.

Oh. I forgot to mention also that one character smokes weed from a bong, one of the parents swears, and one of the children gets drunk.

                            Re: The Simpsons Movie

I was just thinking about those things I listed above, elements of the film I thought parents might want to consider before taking their kids. It occurs to me that those are the kinds of things that one expects to be warned about, but something about the PLOT struck me as something worth mentioning to parents with young kids:

When the family has escaped Springfield to Alaska, Marge is unhappy and she thinks Homer has done something morally wrong. She takes her children and she LEAVES HIM. In the world of the Simpsons, it seems like the kind of thing that you'd see threatened all the time, but this time Marge leaves. With the intention of never coming back. While Homer's out. She videotapes a farewell message (recorded over their wedding tape!) and she takes the kids and gets on a train.

There is something devastating about this turn in the plot; it's the kind of thing that isn't supposed to happen in cartoons. At this moment, Marge is devastated and heartbroken, but determined.

Thing about the Simpsons and their dysfunctional cousins the Bundys is that while the world might mock them, they always stuck together. I wonder how I'd handle Marge's leaving if I were a young child.

                              Re: The Simpsons Movie

Just took the 6 year old daughter unit to the movie. She laughed and laughed and laughed. She cried a little when Marge booked out, and Homer was bummin.

Nothing worse there than a Viagra commercial or an episode of most any sitcom.

When Homer poked his eye with the hammer, oh man, that got the daughter unit cracking up hard.
