    Re: computer bulletin boards

I remember those TelRay monitors with the green phosphor display and the funky square glare hood. The LSI monitors came in I believe sometime early 80's right before the PC was introduced but was used for Intranet purposes with computer time leased thru Pacific Area Computer Services.

I hope some of you all remember the "Dirty Duck" BBS!

      In case:

In those days I was known sometimes as MacCheap, sometimes as ZZType, sometimes just Blaine.

Gee, that illustration looks like it was drawn by R. Crumb! (If anyone remembers the infamous R. Crumb comix.)
Very glad to see you back in here, Blaine!

Oh how I miss the sound of my 9600 Baud Modem dialing BBS after BBS..those were the days...
Every morning I get up and look through the Forbes list of Richest People in America. If I'm not on it, I go to work.

That sound is very similar to my 56k modem dial up out here in Keaau and I don't miss that sound at all cuz I gotta hear it every time I log on!

But there's a new high-speed wireless ISP in East Hawaii now: Advanced Wireless Services told me that they can offer high speed broadband internet through their WAN in my area. Finally!!!

I called Oceanic and Hawaiian Telecom and both indicated they have no plans on offering broadband to some of Kea'au's more affluent areas. Bad corporate decision.

AWS said they can offer wireless broadband for $19.95 a month and local/interisland and mainland VOIP for $39.95 per month. That combined package is cheaper than my Hawaiian Telecom landline/dial up combo package by $23 a month! And they said I can keep my Hawaiian Telecom phone number and book listing as well. I think it's a no-brainer.

So pretty soon I may be able to lose my modem and finally hook up to a music download site for the sake of my teenage kids.
