      Re: Where's Sharie Shima?

Bottom line is...no one should incessantly call a tv station on a daily basis. There is absolutely NO reason for this and sounds like borderline stalking to me. Possibly an email only rule should be invoked. Filters rock!

Due to deadlines I'm unable to talk story with people who call me during my work...be they friends, family, actors, colleagues, yada, yada! I just don't have time and really don't care if others think less of me because of this. I find the constant negative references to an "unmentionable" in a public forum completely inappropriate.

Auntie, I appreciate and understand your words of wisdom. Regardless, no one has the right to continually interrupt someone else's working environment or personal space. Appropriate action should be taken; the type of action depends on whether or not there's a known disability. I have a beautiful, 9 year old, extreme special needs nephew. He can learn right from wrong.

I'm a HUGE Robin Williams fan. I've never called him!

      Well thanks for your time.

        Re: Where's Sharie Shima?

Here in the Hawai`i community of Seattle, we have an extreme "fan" - he calls us on the radio show every week, at least three or four times, and doesn't understand when we have to stop talking with him to go back on the air, so we end up hanging up on him. He also calls me at home from time to time, wants to talk with us when we are emcees at Hawaiian music concerts, etc. etc. etc.

It's hard to know how to set boundaries with him, as he seems to understand you at the time - then seems to forget right away. He's a big, gentle soul - absolute love of Hawaiian music and culture (though not from the Islands, he has been there on vacation many times), and we know his heart is in the right place. But his head is not.

It's tough. He can be annoying sometimes, but harmless, so I try to make time for him when I can, and truly communicate with him. I honestly believe that he does not understand how his behavior is perceived, for whatever reason, thus he is not likely to change. Knowing this makes it easier (for me) to deal with him.

Now, I'm not saying the circumstances of our compadre on this board are like that fan, mind you. But there are parallels that help me to grasp the situation more comfortably. People who annoy you may not always understand that their behavior affects you that way, and they just may not ever be able to see it from your side, for reasons we do not or can not know. C'est la vie.

          Re: Where's Sharie Shima?

Sansei is free to defend himself here, but I am sure there are people like him who are all over the USA in different cities who contact the media because they are fans of them or do not like what they do on air. Criticism is fine, just as long as its constructive and polite. For the most part it only needs to be said once.

His genuine interest in news is nice, but spreading rumors, talking behind people's backs online (and you can see how many members of the local media read this forum so I'm sure they are well aware) and bothering the anchors/reporters borders on stalking as said before by others.

Everyone, regardless of profession have jobs to do, and we are all busy, news is a little different because the anchors/reporters need to check emails, voice messages, wire reports, faxes, answer the phones, listen to the news director, staff meetings, etc. because news never stops and something important could be happening and well being on the phone talking
about irrelevant topics could be considered a waste of time.

I've found for the most part, anchors and reporters are usually willing to talk and answer email, often brief but many take the time to say "thank you" back for being complemented on a nice story they worked hard on or a question I might ask of them.

          Aj

Sorry for not monitoring this thread more closely, but I have now put Sansei on my watch list. Hopefully he lives up to his apology.
            I'm still here. Are you?

              Hey, Mel...
Now that Sharie is back, maybe this thread should disappear?
