On Molokai (Kaunakakai Townside), KGMV is still 9.1 and KHNL is still 13.1. Can't catch KFVE so I'm assuming they haven't moved them from the low-powered station on Maui.

Keep you update on whether 9.1 here will broadcast MyNetworkTV programming or CBS.

KGMB News Sunrise is now simulcasting on KGMB KHNL. The newscast is being branded as "Hawaii News Now Sunrise".

The news crew for Sunrise is mostly the same.

    The set is nice.

They are broadcasting in HD. I don't see that because I only have analog.

    On Oceanic Cable HNL

    KFVE - is on 5

    KGMB - is on 7

    KHNL - is on 8

Over the air it is different:

    KGMB - is on 5.1

    KFVE - is on 9.1

    KHNL - remains on 13.1

My signal for all 3 OTA seems to be decent. No drop outs or anything. I'm in the middle of the Ala Moana area near the old KGMB TV studios. I am assuming the digital signals are now broadcasting from another location.

How is the OTA reception of KGMB / KHNL / KFVE on the neighbor islands and other locations on Oahu?

    The online presence is at

    http://hawaiinewsnow.com which resolves to http://www.khnl.com/.

    http://kgmb9.com/ goes to http://www.khnl.com/

I note it is kind of funny about the "Hawaii New Snow" mentioned earlier in this thread.

    A note on the simulcast:

When you watch KGMB the bug on the corner has the KGMB logo - when you watch the simulcast on KHNL, the bug on the corner is branded with KHNL.

They seemed to have dropped the KGMB9 monicker.

I think no one gets their KGMB signal on Channel 9 anymore.

I have to give Dicus credit for being amongst the few KGMB staff to continue on a regular basis to writing a blog during the busy news transition, his latest thoughts:

Mel, is there a reason you amended someone else's post with this link and your editorial comment? Personally, I feel a separate post containing the same info would've been more appropriate, regardless of the 12 hour time difference between the original post and the added link. Just my opinion...

I don't mean to pick on you, I have been reading a lot of comments on other forums (Honolulu Advertiser, Star Bulletin, etc) and how people are watching this "soap opera" play out.

When someone speaks so casually about someone's career coming to an end it sorta gets to me.

Forgive me for being overly sensitive....but again I ask-- how would YOU react if/when that day ever arrived?

I'm not speaking ill of anyone because I don't know Tracy personally or the whole story...but generally speaking from my experience, in times of crisis people will show their true colors.

Glad to see Paul stepped up to the plate and helped a friend in need.

Tracy shafted us by not wanting to work. She said it was too far to walk from the weather wall to the temporary set. She was clearly insolent, having mentally checked out any obligation to her coworkers. And with no ties or intention of returning to Hawaii, she didn't care what bridges she burned.

During the commerical, I would answer the phones, let in the guests outside, escort them to the set, and mic them. Then run back to the desk. She was sitting right there and stubbornly refused to help. It was ridiculous. She was on Facebook or on social calls to her friends in Chicago.

Our boss heard, and scolded her. In revenge, she simply called in sick for the last 2 days. I wish she'd been edited out of the goodbye video.

I'd have had to read a 2 hour show (the weather part would just be me reading over weather graphics prepared the night before by Sharie) alone, but Paul offered to come in. I didn't have to ask. He volunteered. He is a real friend.

Actually, it was a little more than that. Jason said, "When I came here, I had only my wife but no family in Hawaii. Now I leave KHNL with LOTS of family." I'm paraphrasing 'cause he had a hard time getting it out, but that's what he was trying to say.

    I think that's cry-worthy.

Thank you Diane for your honest response. I was once fired from a job myself, and at the time I felt like the worst thing that ever happened to me. In reality, it was actually the best thing that ever happened to me (disguised as the worst thing) because that lame job was holding me back to do something better. You probably have things you always wanted to do, and now is a great time to discover them. For me, I spent lots of days playing chess with the guys in Waikiki.

Me and my wife can totally see you being "Diane from Sleepland" or being the spokesperson for Hawaii Baby USA.

I'm not really sweating how freelance "appears" and if I have glory days or not to come. If there's pocket change to be had, cool. If not, ok.

To be honest, my head's still spinning from the layoff. Just so much stress, etc - I need to unwind. I am not in a state to really think about putting up a website, getting together a reel, etc.

I definitely will set this aside and remember to re-read it and think about it in a few weeks when I'm back to a healthy place. THANKS for your good advice and tips, everyone.

I'm comfortable with what I've had and done, and where I've been. I don't know where I'm going. I'm not worried. I have faith something will materialize that will seem interesting to me and worthwhile. Aside from mourning, I'm in a good space.
I have enjoyed and appreciated your work for a long time. About 20 years ago, I was laid off when the company I worked for sold off their entire radio division. I wound up with an even better opportunity. I have no doubt the same thing will happen to you. You have talent, personality and versatility. Mahalo for the great job you have done for Hawaii television viewers.

KHNL's website has taken down all the bios of on-air staff except for the remaining four:
