Which reporters/writers stand out in your mind?

Which ones don't? Sorta fade into the background?

    Memorable:
    Ron Mizutani
    Keoki Kerr
    Joe Moore

    Forgettable:
    Alan Lu

Except Joe is neither a reporter nor a writer...at best he's an anchor and/or news reader.

I vote for 'news reader' and only an average one at that. What makes Joe memorable isn't his anchoring, it's his antics. I think his ratings come from lots of people tuning in just to see what crazy thing he'll do or say next!
No, I'm not the Larry Price, I just happen to have the same name.

I like Alan Lu. I think he's one of the better writer/reporters in town.

PS. This is such a stupid thread.

I also like Jim Mendoza, great story teller

Also, Lyle Galdeira could weave a good yarn.

Sadly the great story tellers are no more...

I know this was posted in the TV forum, but the original post didn't seem to be limiting it to broadcast journalism, so I'd like to say that Kalani Simpson is TOO GOOD FOR HAWAII.

I consider myself a fair writer, and I'm a tough audience to impress, but this guy really knows what he's doing. He's one of the few local columnists I can say with certainty I couldn't out-write. Sure, he "just" does sports, but good writing is good writing.

I consider John Heckathorn to be pretty good, but his current column sucks okole.

I think there was a haole guy named Phil Hayworth once, did some stuff for KHNL and was really smart and funny. Also think he wrote for the Weekly and did some freelance stuff for SB. Heard he was on Kauai, or maybe back in California. But he was a good guy, and very good at his job. Just another one of those guys who came and went. Wish him luck.

Are you referring to Larry Beil or Neil Everett?

Oh yeah! Samuel Crowingburgh Amalu. I used to read Sammy every day. Loved his columns and writing.

These days I love reading Cynthia Oi of the Star-Bulletin Editorial section. I love reading her words, even if sometimes I don't agree with her premise.

Here's one I particularly liked. I read it over several times just to enjoy it:

yea. i read Oi's stuffs, even tho I feel as if, after, I just ate a few slices of wonder bread.

I think; "huh!? why did I do that? I don't feel any different than before. I didn't learn anything. what da hell DID she say? what was her point? Then feel, I not only want that ten minutes of my life back, i want her to RE-fund a full half hour.
