  • Something for the TV weathercasters

I don't recall any of the local TV weatherpeople talking about climate change or global warming, although it would seem to be the logical spot in the newscast for that kind of reporting. Here's an interesting article in Salon (get the day pass; you'll have to watch a History Channel ad today, which is better than a car ad) which talks about how hard it is to fit a two or three-minute discussion into the weather news hole. Part of the resistance is that it's "not what local viewers want to see," part of it's "that's political, not weather," and part of it is disagreement that the phenomenon even exists.

Yo, KITV, KGMB, KHON? Any interest?

I've heard disparaging monikers and vile epithets attached to our Tv reporters before, but this takes the cake.

I'm not gonna bother explaining the concept.

However, I found a sentence using the phrase: it's from Answers.com's definition for the Associated Press.

"stories can be edited to fit a newspaper news-hole"

They don't talk about global warming because it's not the local weather guy's job to talk about extremely extended forecasts.

"Tomorrow, mostly sunny with mauka showers, with more of the same extending through next week. During the next few decades, Honolulu will experience gradual warming, with slightly increasing ocean water levels as the polar ice caps melt. Dan, back to you."

reminds me; I had a newscaster girlfriend years ago, and hadda cut it off. it was getting weird. in the middle of you know what, she'd blurt out things like:

              "back to you, Kimo!"
              and...
              "This just in..."

I was going to say something, but I changed my mind.
