Jim Dooley. Though Keoki Kerr is high up on the list. The difference is Dooley has excelled on the air, in print, and has always been sharp as a tack. Keoki could be heir apparent if he can hone his arsenal enough to avoid being assigned stupid stories.

Haven't posted in awhile, as usual my opportunity to say there is no talent, not one single reporter worth noting on local TV. These reporters get paid nothing, so we get nothing in return, working in TV in this town is like a volunteer job, just a popularity contest, and this includes the anchors, just look at NEWS 8 , #4 practically since it's inception, crappy "reporters" , never make a bold move and clean house like they should. Hawaii media is full of nepotism too.

well as an outsider I tend to agree but there are exceptions

investigative reporting is virtually non-existent in Hawaii

and you KNOW there is corruption around!

but that seems to be the norm nationwide not just here

I think the common theory is that investigative reporting makes too many waves to attract ad revenue in a 72 market (Honolulu). In L.A. or Chicago, they could care less. Not like we never had it. But you tell me how do four local stations (five if you include KFVE) with their hand in the cookie jar compete for a piece of that Chips Ahoy?

Not by firing a third of the staff of the #1 station, I’m sure we can agree. But how about advertising friendly branding? (i.e. “the team that knows hawai‘i,” “hawai‘i’s severe weather station,” “island television,” and “live, local, late-breaking, from hilo to hanalei!”) Hey I would love to see more investigative journalism. But what would the spin-doctor, ahem, marketing team think about that?

You guys said it a lot nicer and softer (and better) than I did, and we're a lot kinder to me than I thought you would be, I was expecting the usual defensiveness. Yes auntie, I experienced the "eat you up and spit you out" mentality of the media in this town and am speaking from first hand knowledge.
