  • Honeymoon @ Hawaii

    Hi all,

I'm planning to go to Hawaii for my honeymoon. I never been there before. I will there for 7 days. I want to visit 2 islands, probably one for 4 days and stay at another island for 3 days. Which island should I stay in? I only know Honolulu (Waikiki Beach) is a popular place. Also, I heard about Maui a lot.

Also, how do I get to one island to another? Interisland flight? Where can I get those ticket?

Any comments would be greatly appriected. Thanks!

aloha and congratulations! i recommend kauai and the big island. oahu is too much concrete. you can buy your tickets and make arrangements with aloha or hawaiian airlines. you can also go by private jet or smaller aircrafts that give personal tours on small aircrafts or helicopters which I don't recommend.

i hope you and you wife enjoy your honeymoon here in hawai'i. take a look on hawaiithreads advertisement section above the right corner...there are hawaiian luau's and hawaiian honeymoon information as well.

once again. congratulations and welcome to hawaiithreads.com

contact a travel agent that specialises in the tropics. they would know the current deals.

It also kinda depends on what you want to see and do. If you want busy busy (things to do), then Honolulu and Maui. If you want laid back, then Kauai and the Big Island or even Molokai. If you wants lots of sandy beaches and safe swimming areas, Maui has the most.

My wife and I honeymooned in Honolulu at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider - we had a wonderful time. We're more of the adverturous types versus the lay on the beach types, so O'ahu was perfect for us. While we barely scraped the surface of things to do while in/on O'ahu, we were able to fill a week with things to do. In my humble haole opinion, these are my must sees/dos:

            Pearl Harbor
            Hanauma Bay
            North Shore
Luau - We loved Paradise Cove

My wife and I are moving to O'ahu in September and will hopefully have more to offer in the future.

              Aloha,

My wife and I got married on Kauai and I highly recommend that island for honeymooning, most beautiful, rent a place on Hanalei bay. I don't recommend splitting your time between two islands unless your are an extreme surfer and a vulcanologist.

For the casual vacationer most of the islands can satisfy what you are looking for in a "tropical vacation" and the headaches and hassle of changing hotel rooms, getting another rental car, flight etc. just isn't worth it in the end. Do some research, pick and island and stay there...take it easy and don't try to pack too much in, it's Hawaii man, chill.

My first visit was a disaster. I wanted to get the whole Kauai experience so I booked rooms on Poipu, Keoke lodge (wettest place on earth) and Princeville and several other places all during a two-week stay! I was young...what can I say.

Anyway, once at Poipu we discovered snorkeling and I canceled the rest of the reservations and felt bad that I had waisted so much time not snorkeling.

I am also looking to go to Hawaii for my honeymoon. My fiance and I want to go somewhere where we there are a lot of activities. I have heard that Maui and Kawii (spl?) offer a lot of activites, while offering peaceful surroundings. Would you recommend these two islands? Also, what is the best part of each of the islands to stay? What are some good hotels? Thank you.

                  Re: Honeymoon @ Hawaii

If you are active and creative there are things to do on all the islands. Buy/borrow some guide books and do some research.

Any island you choose will have shopping, some form of snorkeling, beaches, biking, hiking. Each Island has areas that mainlanders consider “tropical” but Kauai is beats the others for “tropical”. The natural beauty of Kauai just driving from Poipu to Hanalei is in my opinion the most beautiful drive in all the islands.

If you are mainly interested in lying on a beach there is no need to island hop. If you are mainly interested in snorkeling there is no reason to island hop. If you want to sightsee and live in a rental car the whole time you are here, then island hopping is maybe what you want. Traffic is getting worse on all the islands. In a day you can drive around the Big Island and get out and see the volcano museum, stop for a picnic at Black Sands and drive around Hilo, Waimea, Kona. That would take a good long day.

As far as I’m concerned Hawaii isn’t about sightseeing, it’s about activities like snorkeling, surfing & kayaking. Once you have seen one palm tree and one banana tree and a waterfall or two you, most likely will be bored with seeing more tropical foliage. If you are really into tropical foliage, schedule a trip to a botanical garden.

If you want the quintessential Hawaiian cultural experience go to the Polynesian Cultural center on Oahu. http://www.polynesia.com/ Most tourist luaus are for entertainment, not fine dining.

                    Re: Honeymoon @ Hawaii

We are about to visit the Islands for the eleventh time and what I like to do the most now is just lie around on the beach. Our first visit was a whirlwind of activity trying to see as many things as possible, then we relaxed and realized that we could come back any time we like. We don't use a rental car anymore, we get bus passes and just take our time now. It's wonderful.

While I am glad that we saw the Polynesian Cultural Center, it was exhausting, and I don't need to see it again. Plus, the food was just awful. And no alcohol or real coffee there either. Great luau show though.

My husband is retired military, so we stay at the Hale Koa on the Fort Derussey beach. Very reasonable and a beautiful resort type hotel. Great luau there too and I sure miss Danny Couch. The new guy just doesn't do it for me, so we won't see that again either.

                          Re: Honeymoon @ Hawaii

Tourist I love tourist, without them I don't think we would truely survive well of course we got the Military, but it's cool to have new faces from all over the world come down to Hawaii.

Ever heard of the ALOHA spirit? It's something we islanders inhibit no matter the race. I don't know how to describe it but it's a good warm friendly feeling, where everyone is kind to each other and while walking down malls and shops and industries we don't know we say "Aloha", or "Hey hows it going." to everyone we see or meet. Just think of the warmest most friendliest place that exhibit the ohana or familly feeling, and values where nothing is inclosed everything is open and there's a mix of cultures and races that make this island great and interesting. Aloha is about giving and I guess showing Love to others besides oneself. Think of it this way when my Uncles go fishing they catch enough fish to give to their relatives and neighbors. When theirs a party with food at any of my relatives house everyone in the block besides familly is invited. That's pretty much Island Style living for you.

Yeah the islands are small and you could probably fit one island in a small county somewhere up in the states. It's Hawaii. For those of you coming down to visit and new to Hawaiithreads Welcome by the way see you folks up on the boards.

Pedro, you probably meant exhibit didn't you? Although on the other hand I know some people who definitely inhibit any sign of aloha spirit.

I just realize that inhibit means something different than what I was trying to convey and you are right. Thanks again, sorry for the grammer mistake's. Hope to see you on the boards Glen Miyashiro
