Pumpkin Patch

I didn't know quite where to share this, so this is a good place I think....We visited the 30 degree pumpkin patch today brrr....foggy but pretty. Thought I would share. I know they are all over the world but here ya go anyways
Oh and here are my boys too... still young enough to sit on a pumpkin.

I havent seen any pumpkin patches here.. which sucks.. but we're gona buy one today and carve it.. yay!

This time of year, kids participate in class trips to Aloun Farms in Ewa to pick pumpkins. Then they carve them at school, with adult supervision. It's a kick and my kids love it. The staff at Aloun like to sit the kids down under a shelter and talk to them about the variety of crops raised on the Ewa Plain. They hold up vegetables, ask questions, and kids win a zucchini or an ear of corn for correct answers! I cooked a zucchini for Kid 1 a few years back; she was thrilled that she brought home the dinner vegetable! I appreciate that Aloun Farms has gotten so involved with school children, to help motivate a new generation of healthy eaters.

Last night in Utah me and my sister and some friends[IMG][/IMG] Went on this thing calle the Pumpkin Walk. It was really cool to see all these pumpkins with weird zany carvings take a lookie [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Ah, Aloun Farms. We did the pumpkin thing in 2004 (here are some photos), and it is indeed surreal to just see a wide field scattered with orange orbs. We returned last May for a famly carnival of sorts (video!). To be honest, the first thing that comes to mind whenever I hear the name of the place today is "hot." Very, very hot.

It's strange to me to see people picking pumpkins in t-shirts! I am not making fun or anything but we all go out and buy boots and gloves to go to the pumpkin patches every year! It is the first buy of the winter season.

And here, if we carve the pumpkin before 10/31, the buggah is going to have fruit flies buzzing all around it, with mold starting to grow!

AHH LOL I didn't even think of that! We have problems with them freezing! I carve them 2 weeks ahead!
