I was in preschool and all the teachers were crying including my teacher Mrs. Rose. I remember all of her makeup running down her face that day. As young as I was I knew it was a very sad day when I saw her cry...she never cried before.
I remember when President Kennedy came to Hawaii a few months earlier and we waited along Nimitz Highway (standing on some concrete piers that were to be used for the constuction of the Nimitz overpass. The crowd was so huge to see the presidential motorcade pass by, I couldn't see as it approached.
My mom hoisted me up so I could wave at him. And when I did, he turned and looked right at me, pointing at me and smiling. I'll never forget that moment as my mom started screaming, "he waved at you he waved at you!" I was three years old and this is what he said that day to the people of Hawaii: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=9262

President John F. Kennedy died on this date. How do I know? Easy. It's my father's birthday. I remember the day so well. We were suppose to have a Big Party but it turned into a somber one. Everyone was sad and looking at the television. The food untouched. From that day forward my father never celebrated his birthday again. He would've been eighty-four years old today.
